MEET THE OWNERS

BROOKS & EMILY
LINDQUIST

Brooks enjoyed a true Montana childhood, immersed in rafting, backpacking and fly fishing in the summer, snowboarding, pond hockey and duck hunting all winter. Having a love and talent for all sports, Brooks was introduced to CrossFit while still in high school, from there he started exploring the endless opportunity, methodologies, and training styles throughout the strength and conditioning world. In his competitive career he qualified for the USA National Weightlifting championship. Brooks also has experience in coaching athletes at the national level, as well as sport-specific training for local athletes and teams. With this diverse background, he developed a program for the betterment of his hometown, Great Falls, MT.

Volta Athletics (formerly CrossFit 406) was founded in September 2011 when Brooks was just 20 years old. Over the years, the staff has grown and the community has flourished. Fast forward to 2022, when Volta Athletics gained its first full-time employee, Emily, Brooks' wife. Since getting married in 2019, they had always hoped they would have the opportunity to worked together. They took the leap and haven't looked back since! In true entrepreneurial spirit, Emily wears many hats and is in charge of the Volta Shop, social media, and podcast production, just to name a few. The gym is now operated by a team of professional coaches in a premier, 4,800 square-foot facility on the banks of the Missouri River.

THE MEANING BEHIND THE NAME

In 1804, The Corps of Discovery set out to explore the Louisiana Purchase. The expedition arrived in Montana nearly a year later, and on June 13, Captain Meriwether Lewis penned a journal entry about “…the grandest sight I ever beheld…I saw the spray arise above the plain like a column of smoke...which soon began to make a roaring too tremendous to be mistaken for any cause short of the great falls of the Missouri.”

What Captain Lewis thought was one falls turned out to be several - atop the largest of these “great falls” was built modern-day Ryan Dam. Constructed 1913-1915 as a hydroelectric plant, it was originally called Volta Dam but was renamed after the late John D. Ryan, an industrialist, president of the Anaconda Copper Company, and founder of Montana Power. To this day, Volta Dam continues to power Great Falls.

Within the walls of Volta Athletics, we are forging leaders. We are more than a gym. We are a community, a family that builds each other up both physically and mentally. We leave the gym every day a little better than yesterday. We take what we've learned and we charge forward full steam ahead, whether at work or play. We come along side others that need encouragement, striving to make Great Falls a better place.

WE ARE THE POWERHOUSE. WE ARE FORGING CHANGE. WE ARE VOLTA ATHLETICS.
